How does vacuum technology work?

11 Aug 2023

About vacuum technology

Vacuum is based on a technology that has been known for a long time – called cupping –, and the current reimagined version of this is vacuum shaping and bodywork. During these treatments, a stretching and suction effect is applied to the area to be treated.

Cupping is about 3000 years old already and is an ancient Chinese and Mesopotamian technique. Later on, it was used for pain relief in combination with headache, stomach ache and acupuncture treatments.

It was only later that it began to be used for cosmetic purposes, combined with massages to create a treatment, a newer and more advanced version of which is vacuum technology. In cosmetics, vacuum began to be used in the 1970s to treat scars and burns, but the big breakthrough came in the last few years when it was combined with other technologies.

These technologies have evolved a lot in recent years, and there is a growing range of machines and treatments to choose from.

How does vacuum technology work?

Vacuum helps to suck up and move the skin tissue. On physical impact, the fat cell envelope becomes permeable and the accumulated fat is released into the lymphatic circulation. Vacuum stimulates local blood flow to the connective tissues and muscles, helping to break down waste products and remove them from the body. It stimulates several layers of the skin, which has the effect of increasing skin elasticity and, with regular treatment, helps to achieve an even skin tone. Used as a course of treatment, it increases collagen production, which is responsible for skin firmness.

Furthermore, the application of long-term vacuum therapy triggers the action of pain-relieving compounds. It can also help with neck and shoulder pain, back pain and knotted back muscles.

What is cellulite?

The so-called orange peel skin is the fat that oozes through the central connective tissue of the skin, resulting in tiny depressions or dimples in different parts of the body, mainly around the thighs and buttocks. Orange peel skin occurs to a lesser or greater extent in the vast majority of women, and in rare cases also in men.

The causes of orange peel skin are still being investigated, but in recent decades, clinical trials and research have identified factors that can cause or predispose to it. Factors such as lifestyle, wearing too tight clothes, wearing high-heeled shoes regularly, sitting or standing for long periods of time can cause problems in the circulation, which can reduce the number of oxygen molecules reaching the cellular level. This also includes unhealthy eating habits, and the excessive consumption of fat, carbohydrates and salt can contribute to the formation of cellulite layers. It also includes harmful addictions such as alcohol consumption and smoking, and stressful lifestyles that increase adrenaline and noradrenaline levels.

It can also be caused by hormonal imbalances, especially in those who are sensitive to the production of certain hormones, as oestrogen aggravates the development of cellulite. Moreover, insulin, adrenaline, noradrenaline and thyroid hormones can also affect cellulite formation.

In addition to these, many genetic factors also influence the development of cellulite, the most basic genetic issue being gender, with 85% of women showing predisposing factors for the development and appearance of orange peel skin.

There are 4 types of orange peel skin.

Type 0 is grape skin, where the entire skin surface of the thighs and buttocks remains smooth when lying and standing, and even when pinched, tight as a grape, in which case we are not really talking about orange peel skin. The next one is type 1, which is tomato skin; women who fall into this type are basically thin yet they still show dimples around their thighs when they pinch their skin. Type 2 is avocado skin, where the cellulite is visible even when lying or sitting down. The final type is broccoli skin, the most severe type of cellulite, which distorts the contours of the body and is visible both lying and sitting.

Using vacuum to combat fat and orange peel skin

Vacuum treatments are also excellent for smoothing out fat layers on different parts of the body and treating orange peel skin areas.

After all, this technology helps to break down fatty tissue and after just a few treatments, the results are visible. It also stimulates the blood vessels and thus the whole blood flow, which allows more oxygen and nutrients to reach the treated areas and also helps detoxification and can contribute greatly to long-term results. Can be used on the arms-buttocks-thighs and abdomen.

The DermaGene CelluLift 5:1 Vacuum Cellulite Treatment and Firming Device is the perfect partner in this fight. This device utilizes the latest technologies. As orange peel skin can be a recurring problem, it is also a good idea to use one of these devices at home as a course of treatment to maintain the effect of firm and smooth skin.

The 5 technologies for firm skin

DermaGene CelluLift 5:1, as the name suggests, combines 5 types of technology in one device. These are the following:

Is vacuum treatment painful?

The vacuum is quite strong so you can feel the treatment, and it can even cause purpling and small haemorrhages. And EMS can cause a tingling sensation, especially when used in combination with heat therapy. But as the treatments progress, your skin will become more and more tolerant.

Using the device takes about 20–30 minutes, 1–2 times a week, and you can see the results after a few sessions.

The device may only be used with oils, as creams will clog it. Among the oils you can use are cellulite oils, cinnamon and pepper fat burning oils.

The results of any type of vacuum treatment can be helped by adequate fluid intake, proper nutrition, supplemental lymphatic massage, sauna, and regular exercise.

Vacuum treatment is not recommended in case of the following diseases and symptoms:

Pregnancy, pulmonary haemorrhage and tuberculosis, tumours, various skin conditions, open wound, fever, during menstruation

Nor for varicose veins or enlarged blood vessels in the thighs, as vacuum treatment can worsen their condition, since short-term local application has a vasoconstrictive effect, but long-term vasodilating effects.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
